24 VHS Hi-Fi stereo Sound System
W
hen an MTS program is broadcast in Hi-Fi stereo, it will automatically be recorded in Hi-Fi stereo. To play back, just
be sure the settings shown in the TUNER SET UP and AUDIO OUT menus are displayed like those below. With
these settings, you can play back stereo programs in Hi-Fi audio.
MTS (Multi-Channel Television Sound) Hi-Fi Playback
When you want to play back an MTS broadcast, be sure the VCR is connected to a stereo AMP or receiver, or a stereo TV
(as shown on page 23, see “Connections”), and the settings described in steps 1-3 below have been made.
Choose Input Source
(You may skip this step if “TUNER” is already selected.)

First, press the MENU button.
Next, press the 4 button to select “INPUT SELECT.”
Then, press the 1 button to select “TUNER.”
Now, press the MENU button to leave this mode.
Selecting Hi-Fi Output Mode
(Select “HM” from the AUDIO OUT menu.)
First, press the MENU button.
Next, press the 2 button.
The “VCR SET UP” menu appears.
I Then, press the 5 button.
The “AUDIO OUT” menu appears.
Now, press the 1 button.
This setting gives you:
• stereo Hi-Fi playback.
• monaural playback of non Hi-Fi tapes.

NOTE:
Normally “HM” should be selected from the AUDIO OUT menu
for playback with Hi-Fi sound. But you can change the selection to
“MONO” to listen to the monaural audio playback, for example,
listening to an audio dubbed tape.
Select TV STEREO or 2ND AUDIO Mode
First, press the MENU button.
Next, press the 3 button.
The “TUNER SET UP” menu appears.
press the 6 button to select “TV STEREO.”
This setting plays back:
stereo Hi-Fi recording (in the main language).
Or
b) Now, press the 7 button to select “2ND AUDIO.”
This setting plays back:
• recordings in the Second Audio language.

Press the MENU button.
Recording in VHS Hi-Fi
Both the Hi-Fi audio and the separate linear (monaural) audio are automatically
recorded on their respective tracks.
Note: To record, a video signal is required for proper speed accuracy.
