Chapter 1
Overview
The Edge Access L3x2 Series Combination Line Interface Modules (CLIM) convert and extend fast
Ethernet media between Local Area Networks (LANs) located up to 120Km apart.
1.1 L322 Series CLIMs
The L322 receives and transmits 100Base-T full-duplex Ethernet data from a UTP or fiber optic
cable. The CLIM converts the data to or from an electrical signal and extends it over a variety of
multimode or single mode fiber optic links.
The CLIM front panel, shown in Figure 1, includes:
• User port: RJ-45 modular connector for a UTP cable.
• Extension port: SC connecter, simplex or duplex; simplex requires a pair of L322s, one at
1310 nm wavelength and the other at 1550 nm wavelength
• Status LEDs: LNK/RX and TX pairs for the User and Extension ports shows link status and that
data is received and transmitted; STA shows CLIM status
• Normal/X-over switch: Selects the UTP cable type for the User Port. Set to N for a standard
straight-through cable; set to X for a crossed-over cable
