Turn off cold water supply to water heater. Connect

open drain. Open a nearby hot water faucet to vent

heater and allow water heater to drain to a point
below the outlet connection nipple.

Disconnect outlet nipple from plumbing system.
Step 4
With an appropriate tool such as a pipe wrench,
remove outlet nipple/anode from the water heater.

Step 5.
Visually inspect outlet nipple/anode. Outlet nipple/anode

depletion is ½ of the original anode diameter (approximately
¾” diameter), replacement is recommended. If any of the
steel core of the anode is exposed, replacement is recommended.
Step 6.
Upon completion of inspection or subsequent replacement, reinstall outlet nipple/anode into water
heater. Connect nipple to plumbing system, resume water supply and refill with water.
