(4) Calculating Camshaft Clearance

The cam clearance measured, will be a difference figure than that of the reference level.

Cam Clearance Reference Level (When Cold)

・Intake 0.12±0.01 ・Exhaust 0.14±0.01

When difference of reference level is positive = Use thicker shims

When the difference of reference level is negative = Use thinner shims

Adjusting the cam clearance set point is done by using the correct shim thickness. Make your adjustments by calculating
the correct level ratio of the rocker arm ( consistent @ 1.7).

①Calculating the correct shim thickness

※The round off the adjustment value to the 3rd decimal point when calculating.

※When measuring with the test shim, use the 2.6 thickness shim.

②Selecting the shims for installation

Use the shim sizes that are the closest value to your calculations.

(EXAMPLE) When the calculated shim thickness is 2.64mm

When the shim thickness required is thinner than 2.60mm for the solid pivot side (Ref to the drawing B on the front
page), then additional machining will be required. Then you'll need to check the clearance values again when setting the
shim to verify the correct clearance. Please consult with us if you require this additional seperate tuning service.

When the above mentioned custom modification is required, depending on the cylinder heads condition,
in some rare occasions, there are cases when the correct value cannot be met. In these cases,
modifications to the head may be required.

Shims for installation are sold seperately.
Please check the correct shim sizes required prior to ordering via the calculation method as stated above.
