Removing the System Board

  

Replacing the System Board


 

The system board BIOS chip contains the Service Tag, which is visible on a barcode label on the bottom of the computer. The replacement kit for the system
board includes a CD that provides a utility for transferring the Service Tag to the replacement system board.

 

Removing the System Board

 

1.

Follow the instructions in

2.

Remove the battery (see

).


 

3.

Remove the hard drive (see

).


 

4.

Remove the memory module(s) (see

).


 

5.

Remove the hinge cover (see

).


 

6.

Remove the keyboard (see

).


 

7.

Remove the Mini Card (see

8.

Remove the display assembly (see

).


 

9.

Remove the palm rest (see

10.

Remove the fan (see

11.

Remove the processor thermal-cooling assembly (see

Remove the processor (see

).


 

13.

Remove the remaining M2.5x5-mm screw from the system board.

 

14.

Pull out slightly on the back right side of the computer to release the connectors on the system board from the base.

 

15.

Lift the front of the system board and slowly ease the connectors out of the computer base and remove the system board.

NOTICE:

To avoid electrostatic discharge, ground yourself by using a wrist grounding strap or by periodically touching an unpainted metal surface (such

as the back panel) on the computer.

NOTE:

The coin cell battery is soldered to the system board and is not a replaceable part.

NOTE:

It is not required but is highly recommended that you remove the fan.
