Hitching Tractor to Planter
Use the 3P4025AH planter only with a compatible
tractor. Planter models are ordered with either a 2-point
or 3-point hitch compatible with ASABE S217 /
ISO 730-1 standards:
Category III W (80 to 225 hp / 60 to 168 kW)
Category IV W (180 to 400 hp / 135 to 300 kW)
Category III N (80 to 225 hp / 60 to 168 kW)
Refer to Figure 3
Models with lift-assist are 2-point, and omit the top link
weldment
. Models without lift-assist are full 3-point.
Preset Hitch Spacers and Pin
Back the tractor into the desired alignment with the
planter center-line. Normally, tractor and implement
center-lines are matched. For planting on beds, a 4 inch
offset may be desired.
Move and re-secure the hitch pin spacers
the left lower 2-point arm at the desired lateral alignment.
If a top link weldment
Category III W (not shown), move the smaller
Category III pin
from storage into the front lower
holes
. The Category IV pin
may be left in place.
If a top link weldment
Category IV W, verify that the smaller Category III pin
is in the rear storage holes.
First Time Hitch Alignment
For proper row unit tracking in the field, the planter frame
must be perpendicular to the tractor center-line. Two
hitch shim plates
are provided for this adjustment. One
is pre-installed between the left hitch plate and the
mainframe.
Bring the tractor 2-point arms into contact with the lower
hitch pins. Check the planter-tractor geometry. If
adjustment is required:
1.
Loosen all 8 or 12 bolts
at each hitch plate where
a shim needs to be added or removed.
2.
As needed, loosen jam nuts and use the two set
screws
to drive the plate free from the frame.
3.
Add or remove shims
.
4.
Back out set screws
in until the hitch can be
re-tightened. Secure the jam nuts.
5.
Re-tighten plate bolts
.
Hitch Tractor
1.
Connect the tractor lift arms to the lower hitch pins. If
using a quick hitch, ensure that the pins lock
securely.
2.
If a top link weldment
is present, connect the top
link to the appropriate upper hitch pin. Front-to-back
leveling is performed in later steps.
