Overview of Scanner
This chapter gives an overview of the scanner
including:
•
Function of Scanner
•
Operating Modes
•
Scanner Setup Parameters
•
Scanner Accessories
The scanner is a keyboard wedge interface that is
capable of scanning, decoding, and transmitting bar
code data to a host computer or terminal.
As a keyboard wedge interface you can use the
scanner with most manufacturer’s terminals. The
scanner connects between the keyboard and display
of the terminal. In this mode the scanner draws
power directly from the terminal.
The wedge translates scanned data so that it appears
as if it was entered at the keyboard. When the wedge
is transmitting scanned data, the computer ignores
data entered at the keyboard.
You configure the scanner for keyboard wedge mode
by modifying scanner setup parameters. Parameters
are selected based on the terminal type and the types
of bar codes used in your application.
The scanner is easily configured by scanning the
appropriate bar code labels in Chapters 4 through 7 of
this manual. When a configuration label is scanned,
the scanner sends a 1 or 2 line acknowledgement
message to your terminal display.
Important: It is your responsibility to provide the
appropriate application program on the host
computer/terminal to receive and store the data.
