5.3.3.0 Simulating an External Command Input in the Station
Configuration
This task opens a station configuration file (or station) with the Station Builder application and adds a calculated
input. The purpose of this task is to simulate an external command input for the sample test, which you run
in simulation. To use an external command source on a real test, you would use the Station Builder application
to add an analog input resource to the station configuration instead of a calculated input.
Note:
The instructions in this section are intended to be performed in simulation. See
on page 38.
1. Click the Windows Start button and select Programs > MTS 793 Software > Station Builder.
2. In the Password Validation window, enter the password for the Configuration access level. By default, this
password is "Configuration".
Note:
If you are prompted to select a controller, select the MTS FlexTest 40 controller.
3. In the Open Configuration window, select the “2 Chan.cfg” configuration file and click Open.
4. Add a calculated input to simulate an external command source.
a) In the left pane, click the Ch 1 node.
b) In the Channels area, click the External Command tab.
c) In the Hardware tab of the Input Resources area, click <
Add button (+ plus sign). This adds the calculated input to the channel.
d) For Dimension, select Length. For Display Units, select mm.
5. Save the Station Configuration as “2_Chan_ExtCmd.cfg”.
6. A message window prompts you to save or discard the parameters. Click Save Parameters.

5.3.4.0 Simulating a Sine Wave Command with a Calculation
This task opens the station configuration file you created for External Command, and assigns a calculation
(to the calculated input) with the Station Manager application. The purpose of this task is to generate a sine
wave that simulates the external command signal. To use an external command source on a real test, you
would use the Station Manager application to adjust the external command analog input signal.
1. Click the Windows Start button on your desktop and select Programs > MTS 793 Software > Station
Manager.
Note:
If you are prompted to select a controller, select the MTS FlexTest 40 controller.
2. In the Open Station window, select the configuration file you created to simulate external command
(2_Chan_ExtCmd.cfg) and click Open.
