Mounting

Caution! The evaluation unit must be mounted in a

control cabinet with a minimum degree of protec-

tion of IP 54. A snap-in element on the rear of the

device is used for fastening to mounting rails. If

several evaluation units are mounted side by side

in a control cabinet without air circulation (e. g. fan),

a minimum distance of 10 mm must be maintained

between the evaluation units. This distance enables

the heat from the evaluation unit to dissipate.
Caution! Risk of damage to equipment as a result

of incorrect installation. Read heads or actuators

must not be used as a mechanical end stop. Fit

an additional end stop for the movable part of the

safety guard.
Important! From the assured switch-off distance

s

ar

, the safety outputs are safely shut down. If the

actuator is installed flush, the switching distance

changes as a function of the installation depth and

the safety guard material.

Note the following points:
Actuator and read head must be easily accessible

for inspection and replacement.
The switching operation must only be triggered by

the specific actuator designated for this purpose.
Actuator and read head must be fitted

f

so that when the safety guard is open up to the

distance S

ar

(assured switch-off distance), a hazard

is excluded.

f

the actuator is positively mounted on the safety

guard, e. g. by using the safety screws included.

f

they cannot be removed or tampered with using

simple means. Pay particular attention to EN ISO

14119: 2013, section 7, regarding the possibili-

ties for bypassing an interlocking device.

Electrical connection

Warning! In case of an error, loss of the safety

function through incorrect connection.
The auxiliary contact 31/32 must not be used as

a safety contact.
Lay the connection cables with protection to prevent

the risk of short circuits.
Caution! Risk of damage to equipment or malfunc-

tions as a result of incorrect connection.
All the electrical connections must either be isolated

from the mains supply by a safety transformer

according to EN 61558-2-6 with limited output volt-

age in the event of a fault, or by other equivalent

isolation measures.
For use and operation as per the

requirements,

a power supply with the feature "for use in class

2 circuits" must be used. The same requirement

applies to the safety outputs. Alternative solutions

must comply with the following requirements:
a) Electrically isolated power supply unit with a

max. open-circuit voltage of 30 V/DC and a limited

current of max. 8 A.
b) Electrically isolated power supply unit in combina-

tion with fuse as per UL 248. This fuse should be

designed for max. 3.3 A and should be integrated

into the 30 V/DC voltage section.
The devices are tested in accordance with UL 508

and are intended for mounting rail installation in the

control cabinet.
They are not tested as safety components in the

context of the UL definition (e. g. for potentially

explosive atmospheres).
All electrical outputs must have an adequate

protective circuit for inductive loads. The outputs

must be protected with a free-wheeling diode for

this purpose.

The tightening torque for the screws on the connec-

tion terminals must be 0.6 ... 0.8 Nm.
If no read heads or other electromagnetic safety

switch gear is connected to the plug-in terminals

provided in the evaluation units, the bridges supplied

must be inserted in accordance with the connection

diagram.

Safety in case of faults

Terminals A1 and A2 for connection of the power

supply and all outputs (safety and door auxiliary

contact) are reverse polarity protected.

Setup

If the evaluation unit does not appear to function

when operating voltage is applied (green Power

LED does not illuminate), the unit must be returned

unopened to the manufacturer.
Check whether the safety outputs are being switched

(see LED indicator) by opening and closing the

safety door.

Service and inspection

No servicing is required, but regular inspection

of the following is necessary to ensure trouble-free

long-term operation:

f

correct switching function

f

secure mounting of components

f

loose connections.

In the event of damage or wear and tear, the dam-

aged system component must be replaced.

If the safety doors are not frequently used, the

system should be subjected to a function test as

part of the inspection schedule.
