5.0 OPERATION

5.1 Before Operating the Pump

1. Install reservoir breather and check oil level as described in

sections 4.1 and 4.2.

2.

If used, install torque overlay as described in Section 5.5.

3.

Set pressure (torque) setting as described in Section 5.6.

4.

Connect hydraulic hoses as described in Section 4.4.

See Figure 6.

Pendant “ON/ADV” Button:

Button pressed -
• Motor starts.
• Wrench ADVANCES

for as long as button
is held down.

Button released -
• Wrench RETRACTS.
• Motor continues running

for 20 seconds.

Pendant “OFF” Button:

Motor stops immediately
when button is pressed.
(no time delay)

5.3 Pump Operation

IMPORTANT: When possible, a single user should operate the
torque wrench and pump. This can prevent accidental activation
of the pump while the operator is positioning the wrench.

WARNING: In the following step, the pump motor will
start and the valve will shift automatically, retracting the
torque wrench. Verify torque wrench is positioned to

avoid injury or equipment damage before starting motor.

1. To start the pump, press the “ON/ADV” button on the

pendant. See Figure 6. The motor will start automatically, and
the wrench will begin to advance. The wrench will continue
advancing for as long as the button is held down. The
pressure gauge will show the pressure in the advance circuit.

2. Release the “ON/ADV” button to retract the wrench. After

button is released, the gauge will show the pressure in the
retract circuit (R-port bypass), approximately 1700 - 1800 psi
[117-124 bar].

3.

Press the “OFF” button to stop the pump.

Note: If the “ON/ADV” button is not pushed within any continuous
20 second period, the pump's built in timer will automatically shut
off the motor.

Note: When the wrench is fi rst connected to the pump, air will
be trapped in the hydraulic circuit. Remove air by placing wrench
and straightened hoses below pump. Operate wrench without
load as required, until it advances and retracts without hesitation.

5.4 Relieving Pressure

To relieve hydraulic pressure on the wrench and hoses:

• Press and hold the “OFF” button. See Figure 7.

• While continuing to hold down the “OFF” button, press and
release the “ON/ADV” button three or more times, until the
pressure gauge indicates zero (0) psi/bar. The hoses can now be
removed.

Button (on valve)

If pressure cannot be relieved by
using the pendant buttons, fi rmly
depress the manual override
button at the top of the valve
assembly. This will manually shift
the valve spool, relieving trapped
pressure.

IMPORTANT: The manual
override button is intended for
occasional use only, such as
during a power failure.

5.5 Pressure Gauge Torque
Overlay

For your convenience, torque overlays for selected Enerpac
torque wrench models are provided with the pump.

A torque overlay fi ts over the pressure gauge dial face and easily
converts pressure readings to torque readings. The overlay has
imperial units (ft-lbs.) on one side and metric units (Nm) on the
other. To change scales, simply fl ip overlay over.

WARNING: Each overlay is sized ONLY for a specifi c
Enerpac torque wrench model. Do not use with other
wrench models.

Install a torque overlay as described in the following steps. See
Figure 9.

1. Remove the top thumbscrew securing the gauge shield.

Loosen, but do not remove the bottom two thumbscrews.

2. Place the desired overlay onto the fl ange bracket, aligning

the overlay with the dimples on the bracket.

IMPORTANT: Always verify that the correct overlay is installed for
the Enerpac torque wrench being used.

3. After the overlay is in place, tighten the bottom two

thumbscrews. Reinstall and tighten the top thumbscrew.

4. See torque wrench instructions for amount of hydraulic

pressure required to produce the desired torque. Note that
the maximum pressure will vary for diff erent wrenches and
accessories.

IMPORTANT: Refer to torque wrench instructions for wrench
operating procedure and specifi cations.
