Camera cannot
focus.
• The intended subject is one with which autofocus does
not perform well.
• Set AF assist in the setup menu to Auto.
• Subject not in focus area when shutter-release button
pressed halfway.
• The focus mode is set to E (manual focus).
• Turn camera off and then on again.
Pictures are
blurred.
• Use flash.
• Use vibration reduction.
• Use D.
• Use a tripod to stabilize the camera (use with the self-
timer for best results).
• Set Wide-angle converter in the shooting menu to On
when a wide-angle converter is equipped.
Bright specks
appear in pictures
shot with flash.
Flash is reflecting off particles in air. Turn flash W (off ).
Built-in flash does
not fire.
• Flash is W (off ).
• Some scene modes that cannot turn on flash are selected.
• Focus mode is set to B (infinity).
• D modes (other than Time-lapse movieP) is selected.
• Continuous, BSS, or Multi-shot 16 is selected for
Continuous.
• Option other than Off is selected for Auto bracketing in
shooting menu.
• On is selected for Wide-angle converter in the shooting
menu.
• Built-in off is selected for Flash control in the shooting
menu.
• Built-in flash will not fire when a Speedlight (available
separately from Nikon) is used.
Optical zoom
cannot be used.
Optical zoom cannot be used while recording movies.
