1) “Standards shall have nominal errors no greater than

of these permitted for the gauge being tested.”

(Ref: ASME B40=100-1998)

2) The instrument used as the calibration standard

should have a maximum range no greater than 2x
that of the gauge being tested. (i.e. Do not use a
400psi standard to test a 15psi gauge.)

3) “Known pressure shall be applied at each test point

on increasing pressure (or vacuum) from one end to
the other end of the scale. At each test point the
gauge shall be . . .
lightly tapped, and then read . . .”
(Ref: ASME B40.1 ¶ 6.2.4.1)

4) To read gauge indication, move eye over red pointer

tip at OD of printed dial until red reflection in mirror
band is no longer visible, and then read the pointer
position in reference to the dial.
