Understanding the Policy Advisor Analysis Process
3PAR Policy Advisor User’s Guide
■
-t
- Generates tuning suggestions for virtual volumes not matching the
specified RAID type. If a
-ssz
value is not supplied, the default values are used. The
defaults for each RAID type are 2 for
r1
, 4 for
r5
, and 8 for
r6
. Only one RAID type can be
specified.
■
-ssz <set_size>
- This option is only applicable when used in conjunction with the
-t
option. Generates tuning suggestions for virtual volumes with the specified
RAID type but with a different RAID set size.
■
-ha
- Generates tuning suggestions for virtual volumes with an actual
availability value that is less than the supplied value. Port availability is greater than cage
availability, and cage availability is greater than magazine availability.
■
-devtype
- Generates tuning suggestions for specified virtual volumes with PD
device types different from the specified device type.
■
-tunepct <1-100>
- Each specified virtual volume is analyzed for the number of PDs
containing the virtual volume’s data. If the number of PDs is less than the specified
percentage of available PDs, then tuning suggestions are generated. The default is 90%.
■
-list
- Displays Tune Criteria, Tune Reasons, and Skip Reasons as a list rather than a table.
See
on page 4.3 for more information about the script options.
The Policy Advisor script takes longer to run on systems with large numbers of virtual volumes
created directly from LDs. The Policy Advisor takes approximately 0.2 seconds to perform the
analysis for each virtual volume on an InServ Storage Server with less than 500 virtual volumes.
This increases to approximately 0.6 seconds for each virtual volume on a system with 2,000
virtual volumes. The Policy Advisor takes longer to run on system configurations where a large
number of virtual volumes share a set of logical disks.
4.6.2.2 Virtual Volumes Created from Common Provisioning Groups
Virtual volumes created from CPGs are virtual volumes created with the InForm
createvv
CLI
command and the
-cpg
option, or the InForm Management Console Fully Provisioned
from CPG option. The analysis of virtual volumes created from CPGs includes the LDs used to
create the CPGs, rather than performing the analysis at the virtual volume level. If any of the
LDs have an inefficient layout, then tuning suggestions are generated for all virtual volumes
associated with the inefficient LDs.
The Policy Advisor does not allow changes to the characteristics of the CPG itself. The
-t
,
-
ssz
,
-ha
, and
-devtype
options are not applicable to CPG based virtual volumes because
