Starting an Open SCSI Device

The fields shown in the previous examples of NAMES reports have these meanings:
Starting an Open SCSI Device
An Open SCSI device must be included in the system configuration database before
you can start it. For details on how to add an Open SCSI device to the system
configuration database, see
Adding an Open SCSI Device on page 4-3.
You use the SCF START SCSI command to make a stopped Open SCSI device
accessible to user processes. When the START SCSI command finishes successfully,
the Open SCSI device is left in the STARTED state.

To start all available Open SCSI devices:

To start $DEV0:

Stopping an Open SCSI Device
You use the SCF STOP SCSI command to stop access to an Open SCSI device in a
orderly manner (the Open SCSI device is allowed to finish any current activity before it
is stopped). When the STOP SCSI command finishes, the Open SCSI device is left in
the STOPPED state. The Open SCSI device remains configured in the system
configuration database.

SUBSYS shows the name of the storage subsystem manager process.
DISK shows a list of the names of the DISK objects associated with the
storage subsystem manager process.
SCSI shows a list of the names of the Open SCSI objects associated with the
storage subsystem manager process.
TAPE shows a list of the names of the TAPE objects associated with the
storage subsystem manager process.
