Viewing special characters is only available for ASCII files.
To access Special Characters options, from the main menu click Window
→
Preferences, expand
SlickEdit and click General in the tree, then double-click the General setting. On the General Options
dialog, select the Special Characters tab, which is pictured below. See

more information about these settings.
