The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesan-
stalt (PTB) is an independent body respon-
sible for the approval of instrumentation
that requires official calibration under Ger-
man law. Several of the instruments de-
scribed in this handbook (also see page ii)
have been verified by the PTB organisa-
tion which has granted them the relevant
Type Approval to IEC 651 as follows:
CEL-266/3A IEC 651 Type 1 &
IEC 804 Type 1,
CEL-275/3A, /3B
IEC 651 Type 2 &
IEC 804 Type 2,
CEL-328/3A IEC 651 Type 2 &
IEC 804 Type 2,
CEL-383/3A, /3B
IEC 651 Type 2 &
IEC 804 Type 2,
CEL-414/3 IEC 651 Type 1 .
When it is required to take measure-
ments that will be legally valid under Ger-
man Law, the sound level meter plus
associated instrumentation must be sent
to the PTB, or to any German Calibration
Authority (Eichamt), for individual certifica-
tion.
However before the instrumentation is
sent, all relevant items must be identified
in the windows of the self-adhesive label
supplied, as shown below, and the label
fastened to the rear panel of the sound
level meter.
To ensure that the label is secure, it is
suggested that the serial numbers be
written or typed on adhesive paper labels
that can also be stuck to the underside of
the PTB label before it is fixed.
