This chapter gives brief details of how
the sound level meters can be connected
for use with other equipment. For more
comprehensive information, refer to the
relevant hand books.
7.1Frequency Analysis
With Ext. Filter Sets (not
CEL-266/3 or CEL-328/3)
These instruments are able to perform a
frequency analysis of sound (or vibration)
signals when used with a suitable filter.
They are intended for use with the CEL-
278/3 and /2 Octave Filter Sets and CEL-
296/3 and /2 Octave/Third Octave Auto-
scan Filter Sets.
CEL filter sets plug directly into the auxil-
iary socket. They are firmly attached to
the meter by rotating a large wheel in the
filter case to turn a screw that engages in
the threaded hole in the bottom panel of
the sound level meter to make an easily
handled unit (see Figure 10).
Older examples of the filter sets employ
a different method to couple them to a
sound level meter. However, CEL can re-
house older filter sets in new cases that
couple directly to the /3 series of sound
level meters. Please contact the CEL
Service Department at Hitchin for details.
7.2Use With CEL-3025
Vibration Attachment Kit
The vibration attachment kit enables the
sound level meter to measure vibration
levels. Frequency analysis of vibration
may also be performed when the instru-
ment has built in octave filters, or a suit-
able filter is connected as described in
Section 7.2.
The kit consists of a CEL-191/2K Acceler-
ometer Kit complete with fixing magnet,
connecting cable, etc and a CEL-189 Vi-
bration Integrator (including slide rule).
The Integrator screws on to a CEL-225/3
or CEL-225 Preamplifier in place of the mi-
crophone capsule, and connects to the
accelerometer by cable as illustrated in
Figure 11. On Type 2 instruments, the
CEL-230 MIcrophone/Preamplifier Unit
must be replaced by a CEL-225/3 or
CEL-225.
