145 PLATE & HARDWARE ASSEMBLY
Install a 3/16" washer (WB001) on the eight 3/8" socket
head screws (SH3375), insert them thru the holes in the
four angle brackets (CAB010) and start an oval nut (5750B
- raised side first) on the end of each screw. See fig. 1.
Assemble a pair of 5-7/8" Double Tracks (4006) and a
12" One Track (4212) as shown to make a fence assembly.
Adjust the spacing between the T-slots of the Double
Tracks to match the hole spacing in your router plate, then
tighten the socket head screws with the 5/32" allen wrench
(5785). Repeat for the second set of tracks. See fig. 2.
Insert the four 1" bolts (HB030) thru the holes
in the Mortise Plate (145P), or the router plate you've
provided. Place a 1/4" washer (WS002) and start a knob
(5540) on the end of each bolt. Slide the fence assembly
on to the heads of two of the bolts and tighten the knobs.
Repeat for the remaining fence assembly. See Cover

USING THE MORTISE PLATE & HARDWARE
Mark the length and location of the mortise on the work.
Loosen the knobs, set the gap between the One Track fences
to the thickness/width of the work and, at the same time,
position the router/bit on the work, then retighten the knobs.
Always use a plunge router and an upcut bit for
mortising. Make sure the bit is not touching the work, then
turn on the router. Plunge the bit into the work, "drilling"
a hole at one end of the mortise. Retract the bit, move the
router to the opposite end of the mortise and plunge the bit
into the work, "drilling" a second hole. Retract the bit almost
entirely, then feed the router back and forth between the
holes as you gradually feed the bit down into the work.
You can to skip the "drilling" step, however we have
found that the drilled holes help you determine when you've
reached the limits of the mortise. They also provide some chip
relief at the ends of the cut, which can help prevent kick-back.
For best results, you should not cut deeper then the bit
diameter in each pass. For example, a 1/4" bit should not cut
deeper than 1/4" per pass.
ACCESSORIES
If you have a plate larger than 12", you can get longer
Double Tracks to replace the 5-7/8" tracks. You can also
substitute a 12" Double Track for the 12" One Track for extra
height support when mortising the edge or end of boards.
