Clean the bolt carrier key with a pipe cleaner (Fig. 39). Clean the bolt hole and

cam pin slot with patches and a soft nylon brush. Dry the bolt hole and cam pin

slot with clean patches.

Remove powder residue and carbon from all external surfaces of the bolt using

solvent-soaked cleaning patches and a brass brush. Clean the firing pin hole

with a pipe cleaner. Apply solvent to the gas rings until they are able to move

freely. Wipe all the remaining solvent off of the bolt using clean patches. Inspect

the bolt (Fig. 40) and bolt face (Fig. 41), firing pin (Fig. 42), cam pin (Fig. 43), firing

pin retaining pin (Fig. 44), extractor (Fig. 45), and bolt carrier (Fig. 46) for cracks,

fractures, chips and wear.

Should you detect any cracks, fractures, chips, or excessive wear,

do not use your firearm until you have contacted the Product Service

Center or a qualified gunsmith. Using broken or worn parts may

result in a dangerous malfunction, damage to the firearm, and serious

personal injury to the shooter and/or others nearby.
