: Equipment used for charging of the Portable Gas Detector battery must be located outside a hazardous area i.e. in

an atmosphere where it is known that there is no risk of the presence of combustible gas.

The PGD3-IR instruments are fitted with rechargeable battery packs.
The battery module is charged within the instrument without removal from its protective case using the equipment detailed in the
following sections.

Compact Charger Type PGDC4

Compact Charger & Transformer

This is the standard charger that is supplied with each new instrument
The Compact Charger is designed to optimize the charging of the battery and minimize the charge time by continuously electronically
monitoring the state of charge. The instrument must be switched off during the charge period.

a) Plug the transformer into the mains socket and connect the low voltage jack plug into the rear of the charger.
b) the green indicator on the charger will flash.
c) Lower the instrument into the charger, allowing it to tilt backwards. Correct operation is indicated by the red light illuminating.

d) Charging is complete when the green indicator becomes illuminated after a period of between 30 minutes and 10 hours depending

upon the initial charge state of the battery. (Red light out)

e) Charger faults are indicated by alternating red and green lights.
f)

Note that the charger and transformer are intended for indoor use only in temperatures less than 104°F (40°C).
