practicai, simple way to accent the

or more rows of stitching along collars,
lapels, facing edges, pockets, seams, etc.
For a tailored look, use lines of regular
straight stitching; sew them with button^
hole twist for added emphasis. For decora-“
tlve interest, use a zig-zag or FlexhStltch
pattern. To add firmness to hems and
seams in knit and stretch garments, top-
stitch with the straight stretch stitch. The
seam guide (see page 58) will help you
place stitching accurately.

With zig-zag stitching, interfacings can
be shaped without bulk.
1. Cut out the dart allowance on the
stitching line.
2. Bring raw edges together and pin or
baste in place over a muslin stay.
3. Stitch, backstitching at both ends of
dart for reinforcement.
