Smoke Detector Location in Existing Homes
Smoke Detectors should be installed outside of the bedrooms in the immediate vicinity of the bedrooms. When all of the
bedrooms are located in one area, one detector is sufficient. If the bedrooms are separated, multiple detectors are required. In
addition, at least one detector shall be installed per floor.
