To place a victim on their side correctly:
- move their arm on the side to be turned at right angles to their body and bend the elbow, with
the palm of their hand uppermost.
- place the back of the hand of the opposite arm against the ear of the victim on the first aider’s
side.
- keeping the hand in position, grasp the leg opposite the side onto which they are to be turned
behind the knee and bend it with the foot on the ground.
- gently roll the body by pulling the knee towards you, keeping the victim’s hand against their
ear.
- when the victim’s knee is on the ground, withdraw the hand from under the victim’s head
supporting their back so as not to move their head.
- adjust the position of the folded leg so that the thigh is at right angles to the body.
Open the victim’s mouth.
