HEART ATTACK
During a heart attack, the victim complains of a violent pain in their chest. This pain grips them
like a vice. They are distressed, and may also have pain in their arm, jaw, back and stomach etc.
Get the victim to lie down or place them in a position in which they are comfortable. Ask them
about their state of health and try to determine if they have had this type of illness before. If the
victim has medicine they normally take for this type of pain, help them to take it as prescribed
by their doctor (same number, same type, etc). ALERT THE EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES
and follow instructions given over the phone
LOSS OF CONSCIOUSNESS
Undo the victim’s belt and collar to help them breathe. Carefully tilt their head back pulling
their chin upwards to prevent their tongue slipping back down into their throat and blocking
their breathing. Look in the victim’s mouth to remove any visible foreign bodies. Ensure that the
victim is breathing by leaning over their mouth. Place the victim on their side and ALERT THE
EMERGENCY SERVICES.
