Troubleshooting
If the following suggestions do not solve a
problem, please contact the Welch Allyn
Technical Support department.
Symptom
Possible Cause and Suggested Response
There is no
display on the
Mobile Acuity
LT System
screen.
Proceed through these steps, as necessary.
1. Check power connections to the laptop
computer.
2. Ensure that the laptop computer power
switch is in the on position.
3. Shut down and restart the entire system.
For instructions, see “5. Shut down and
remove power”.
A Check
Wireless
message
appears on
the Mobile
Acuity LT
System
screen.
OR
Patient
monitors
drop out in
particular
locations in
the facility.
• There are wireless connectivity problems.
Proceed through these steps, as necessary.
1. Ensure that the wireless controller is
connected to AC power.
2. Ensure that the AP data cables are firmly
connected to access points and the
wireless controller.
3. Ensure that the AP antennae are
oriented vertically.
4. On the front and left side of each AP,
confirm that the first three LED lights are
on continuously.
5. Turn off and on again the wireless
controller.
• Particular obstructions can block wireless
communication, or a patient monitor can be
beyond the range of an AP.
Typical obstructions include large metal
objects, such as cabinets, vehicles or
metal-reinforced walls, or large
concentrations of water (such as water
storage containers).
1. Mount the APs in a higher location so
that they have an unobstructed
“line-of-sight” path to each patient
monitor.
2. Move patient monitors closer to access
points.
A patient
monitor does
not connect
to the Mobile
Acuity LT
System.
Proceed through these steps, as necessary.
1. Check the monitor’s back
label for this symbol, which
indicates that the patient
monitor contains the proper
radio card. If a patient monitor
does not include this symbol, it is
incompatible with this Mobile Acuity LT
System wireless network.
2. If a Propaq LT monitor does not display the
wireless connection icon (either
or ),
the monitor might be configured so that
the wireless connection is disabled (the
radio card is off). Refer to the Propaq LT
Monitor Directions For Use for information
about enabling it.
3. Ensure that each patient monitor is within
40 feet of an access point. If the monitor is
not communicating with an access point,
appears on the monitor.
4. Proceed through the steps in the prior row
of this table to ensure that the access
points are functional.
5. The patient monitor might not be
configured with the wireless network
name (ESSID) for the Mobile Acuity LT
System.
a. On the laptop computer, find the label
indicating the network name for the
Mobile Acuity LT System (similar to
“com8.protocol”).
b. Check the patient monitor network
name, and confirm that it matches the
laptop computer network name.
Change it if necessary. For instructions,
see “Identify or change a monitor’s
network name (ESSID)”.
c. Retest wireless communication with
the patient monitor.
6. If any nearby Acuity System has the same
wireless network name (ESSID), the
patient monitor might be connected to the
other system.
a. If you suspect that another nearby
Acuity System has the same network
name, immediately notify the system
administrator about the problem. The
Mobile Acuity LT System must be
moved to a different location where
there is no conflict in monitoring.
b. Notify staff members. Make appropriate
changes in patient care for discontinued
monitoring.
c. Follow appropriate procedures to shut
down your Mobile Acuity LT System and
remove power. For instructions, see “5.
Shut down and remove power”.
Note
For more information about troubleshooting a
patient monitor, refer to the monitor Directions
for Use.
