and/or contaminants. Product, air, and surface temperatures must be maintained at a minimum of 55 °F (13 °C)
throughout the finishing process when using joint compound, primer, and texture products.
New Drywall
Treat joints and nailheads with an appropriate USG Joint Treatment System.
New Concrete/Plaster
Age at least 60 days before texturing. Remove form oils and efflorescence and grind down
form lines. Fill cracks and holes, and level concrete surfaces with S

Painted Surfaces
Lightly sand to dull any sheen and develop “tooth” for good bond. Wash surface with a strong
detergent from the bottom up to remove any dust, dirt, or sheen. A strong solution of TSP (trisodiumphosphate)
works best. Follow manufacturer’s directions on the container.
Note:
Texturing over previously painted, textured, or stained substrates may require application(s) of a stain-
blocking sealer to obtain uniform color (check manufacturer’s instructions for stain containment instructions).
Prevent rust stains by spot-priming bare metal with a good rust-inhibitive primer and let dry prior to the full sur-
face priming.
Substrate
Application of a prime coat is necessary to equalize surface porosity. After prepared surfaces have thoroughly
Priming
dried, apply a prime coat of S
HEETROCK
®
Brand First Coat flat latex paint or a good quality interior latex flat wall
paint with high solids content. Prime coat should be applied undiluted and allowed to dry before decorating.
Mixing
Use material as supplied. Thinning with water is not required. Excessive thinning with water will affect the coating’s
appearance and performance. If thinning is necessary, add one or two ounces of water per gallon. Stir well before
using, but avoid excessive agitation that will entrain air. Use slow speed power equipment or stir by hand. Can be
tinted using universal colorants; incomplete mixing may result in color streaks.
Application
Maintain minimum air, product, and surface temperature of 55 °F (13 °C) during application and until surface
is dry. Can be roller or spray applied. Apply a full coverage coat. Provide ventilation after application.
Roller
For best results, use a high quality roller cover. Cut in corners and trim using a trim brush. Roll surface immedi-
ately with a 3/4
Љ nap roller cover. Generously apply Texture 1 in long strokes, keeping the roller cover filled to
obtain texture effect. Cross-roll area to prevent ridging and framing.
Spray
Use a Binks 18-D gun having a #57 fluid nozzle and a R-27 fan cap, or similar equipment. Air hose is typically
3/8
Љ i.d. with 1/2Љ i.d. material hose. The spray gun should be held approximately 18” from the surface. Adjust
atomizing air pressure and material flow rate so that a full coverage rate can be achieved by overlapping the pre-
ceding application by 1/4 to 1/2 the fan width.
Drying Time
At 72 °F/50% R.H., approximately 60 minutes to touch; overnight for hard surface.
Coverage
Up to 200 ft.
2
per gallon depending on substrate, application method, and texture desired.
Cleanup
Wipe up spills, drops, and spatters promptly using a damp cloth. Wash brushes, rollers, and any other equipment
with warm, soapy water.
