SPECIAL NOTE:
The components packaged in this kit have been assembled and machined for specific type of conversions. Modifications to any of the
components will void any possible warranty or return privileges. If you do not fully understand modifications or changes that will be required to complete
your conversion, we strongly recommend that you contact our sales department for more information. This instruction sheet is only to be used for the assembly
of Advance Adapter components. We recommend that a service manual pertaining to your vehicle be obtained for specific torque values, wiring diagrams
and other related equipment. These manuals are normally available at automotive dealerships and parts stores.
BORG WARNER T10 4 SPEEDS
The Borg Warner T10 4 speed transmission is available in four different basic styles. These styles are GM, Ford Short, Ford Long
and AMC. They are super strong, excellent gear ration selection and fast shifting. They have been available as OEM transmissions
and aftermarket performance transmissions. The adapter kits are available for all of the different models. It is very important that
you compare the new shaft furnished with your kit to the shaft that you are removing from your 4 speed transmission. If the shaft
is different, then you should call the factory immediately for obtaining the correct shaft.
The tailhousings have been identical since 1961 and the adapter should interchange perfectly with your original 2 wheel drive
extension housing. There have been two instances where the reversed gear pocket depth on the second design, Super T10
transmission, were 1.060" deep. The casting that you have received is only 1" in depth. You should check this to see if your
tailhousing will need any modifications. We will be happy to modify your tailhousing free of charge if you have come across one
of these special items.
The gear ratios that apply to the different model numbers on the Super T10 transmissions are as follows:

The adapter housing is a direct copy of the original tailhousing that your transmission was equipped with. You will need to
disassemble the shift lever shaft, steel ball and spring for re-assembly into the new adapter. The original taper pin must be re-installed
to hold the reverse gear shaft in position.
The total overall length of the transmission and adapter will require drive shaft modifications on most installations. The adapter
has provisions for mounting an optional cross member mount as illustrated on the opposite page. Depending on the exact vehicle
that this transmission is being installed into, you may require clutch linkage modification, overdrive shifter bracket modifications
and transfer case control linkage modifications.
On installations using a 2 piece main shaft, make sure that the coupler and the output shaft do not bottom out We have found on
occasion that a transmission output shaft may be slightly longer than we have allowed for and when coupling into our new spud
shaft, we find a small amount of interference. The adapter housing and spud shaft must be assembled to the back of the transmission
without interference.
DO NOT FORCE THE NEW TAILHOUSING ONTO THE TRANSMISSION.
If assistance is needed, please
feel free to call the number listed above.
The adapter is set up for use with a Hurst Competition Plus shifter that can be bolted onto the new casting by using shifter bracket
No. 715502-NS. This bracket will accept all Hurst shifters. Special shifter linkage will be required since the shift tower location is
so much further forward than on two wheel drive installations. Advance Adapters offers a modified rod kit for use with this
transmission, Part No.. 715627-NS. We recommend that you inspect all of the gears end play prior to installation of the shifter
assembly. This inspection should be done after the transfer case output gear has been installed.
In order to prevent the transmission fluid from merging with the transfer case fluid, we recommend the use of a sealed bearing on
the backside of the nee adapter housing. This bearing is Part No. 716302. Not all installations will require the use of the sealed
bearing and it is only required when you do not wish to merge the two gear boxes. The original Jeep T90, T86 or T15 bearing can
be re-used in place of the sealed bearing.
