Troubleshooting

For twisted pair ports, verify that the ACT LED for each port is ON. If a
ACT LED is OFF, do the following:

Verify that the end-node connected to the port is powered ON
and is operating properly.

Verify that the twisted pair cable is securely connected to the port
on the switch and to the port on the end-node.

Ensure that the twisted pair cable does not exceed 100 meters
(328 feet).

Verify that you are using the appropriate category of twisted pair
cable: Category 3 or better for 10 Mbps operation and Category 5
and Category 5E for 100 and 1000 Mbps operation.

Note

A 1000Base connection can take from five to ten seconds for the
link to be established.

If either twisted pair Port 23 or 24 is not working properly, verify
that a GBIC module is not installed in the corresponding
expansion Port 23 or 24. If expansion Ports 23 and 24 are currently
being used, then the corresponding twisted pair Port 23 or 24
cannot be used.

For a fiber optic port on an optional GBIC module, verify that the ACT
LED for the port is ON. If the ACT LED is OFF, do the following:

Verify that the GBIC module is completely inserted into the
expansion slot on the front of the switch.

Verify that the end-node connected to the port is powered ON
and is operating properly.

Verify that the fiber optic cable is securely connected to the port
on the switch and to the port on the end-node.

If the fiber optic port has a dual SC connector, verify that the
receiver fiber port is connected to the transmitter port on the
remote end-node, and that the transmitter fiber port is connected
to the receiver port on the remote node.

Ensure that you are using the appropriate type of fiber optic cable
and that the cable length does not exceed the allowed maximum
distance. Refer to the GBIC Installation Guide.
