POCKET PAL – INSTRUCTION MANUAL – VERSION 400
• MAIN MENU – At startup, the Pocket Pal enters the main menu screen. The main menu has 2
options: practice (PrAC) and preferences (PrEF). At any time the main menu can be reached by
repeatedly pressing the Escape-ON/OFF Key.
Main Menu - Key Descriptions:
 Mode Key – Displays the serial number followed by the version number
 Reset + Up/Down Key – Turn backlight on or off
 Escape Key – Hold for 3 seconds to turn off the Pocket Pal
 Enter Key – Enter the mode currently displayed
 Up/Down Key – Scroll through the main menu items
• PRACTICE MODE (PrAC) – Enter to practice reaction time
Practice Mode - Key Descriptions:
 Mode Key – Enters the Practice Setup Menu (see description below)
 Reset Key – Resets the tree so that it will once again be ready to clock reaction time
 Escape Key – Return to Main Menu
 Enter Key – Stages the tree to practice reaction time (also can use a hand-switch connected
into the 1/8

inch stereo jack at the top of the unit)
 Up/Down Key – Enable or adjust Delay Box setting
 Reset + Up/Down Key – Turn backlight on or off
Practice Setup Menu: The practice menu allows you to view your statistics - StAt (# green lights -
Grn, # red lights - rEd, # wins over the computer - bEAt, and running average - AVG). It also
allows you to change tree type (t.tyP), tree speed (t.SPd), roll out (roLL), delay box (d.b), bump
down (bP.dn), computer reaction time (PC.rt), stage on time (St.on), stage to start time (St.2.S), and
auto or manual reset (rSET). The final option is defaults (dFLt). If selected, the entire system will
return to factory settings.
Practice Setup Menu - Key Descriptions:
 Escape Key – Return to Practice Mode
 Enter Key – Edit item currently displayed
 Down/ Up Key – Scroll through Practice Setup Menu options
Editing in Practice Setup - Key Descriptions:
 Reset Key – Return value to factory setting
 Escape Key – Exit to the Practice Setup Menu without saving changes
 Enter Key – Save changes and exit to the Practice Setup Menu
 Down/ Up Key – Change the setting
Tree Type Explanations:
 Full Tree (FuLL) – Sportsman tree (countdown, amber lights turn on one at a time)
 Pro Tree (Pro) – Professional tree (all amber lights turn on at the same time)
 Blocker Tree (bLoc) – Blocker tree (only third amber light comes on during sportsman
tree countdown)
• PREFERENCES (PrEF) – Enter to turn backlight on/off or to darken/lighten the display
Preferences Menu - Key Descriptions:
 Down/ Up Key – Scroll through the menu items
 Enter Key – Edit the item currently displayed
 Escape Key – Exit to the Main Menu
Preferences Menu Items:
 Backlight (b.LIt) – Turn backlight on/off
 Contrast (cont) – Lighten/darken the display (lower number = lighter display)
