1 Introduction to using HP Insight Control
Insight Control is a product in the HP Insight software family of products that can be downloaded
from the Internet. Insight Control is installed through the HP Insight Software Installer wizard, which
integrates the installation and upgrade of all Insight software products.

This chapter provides an introduction to using the features and capabilities delivered by Insight
Control and how it is integrated into HP Systems Insight Manager.
How to use this guide
This guide is intended to be a quick starting point for you to learn about Insight Control features
and capabilities and how to launch them. Because the HP Insight Software Installer wizard gave
you the option to install all or to selectively install a customized list of Insight Control features, the
user documentation for each feature is modularized in its own user guide. So, if you want more
information about a particular feature that is not provided in this guide, see the detailed user guides
for the Insight Control feature or features you want to learn more about.

Insight Control integration with Systems Insight Manager
Insight Control delivers a set of software and tools that combine with Systems Insight Manager to
provide a powerful mechanism for discovering, installing, monitoring, and managing HP ProLiant
servers. Insight Control enhances the system monitoring, management, and deployment features
of Systems Insight Manager.
Insight Control provides a number of plug-in tools to Systems Insight Manager that enable you to
perform software deployment, monitoring, and management tasks. Insight Control features enable
you to manage and monitor a range of objects including servers, switches, and enclosures.
To access and use Insight Control features through the Systems Insight Manager management
console, the Central Management Server (CMS), you must have installed Insight Control as part
of the Insight software installation process. After installation, you must apply a license to each
server you want to manage and monitor with Insight Control.
If you did not apply a license to each server during the initial installation and configuration of
Insight software, use the HP Insight managed system setup wizard or the Systems Insight Manager
license manager to do so. See

for instructions.
Systems Insight Manager and Insight Control features are launched from the server you chose to
be the CMS, the server on which you installed Systems Insight Manager and Insight Control.
Ensure success by running the Insight Software Advisor first
The Insight Software Advisor, included on the Insight Software DVD, analyzes and tests your current
software and hardware environment to ensure that it meets all installation criteria and provides
you with corrective action for problems it identifies. HP recommends that you run the Advisor before
you begin the installation or upgrade process. The results of the tests help you to identify issues or
deficiencies with the target server that would cause issues with HP Systems Insight Manager and
its integrated software products. You can select the types of tests to run or restrict the tests to those
for a specific software product. See also
