A Troubleshooting

This chapter discusses some common issues that you may encounter while using SAN Visibility software,
including:

Network connectivity issues
SNMP access failures
SMI-S Access failures
Changing SNMP proxy settings for HP StorageWorks 8/20q and QLogic FC switches

Network connectivity issues

Data collection can fail because of any of the following network issues:

No power.

The LAN cable is unplugged.

The device is not configured properly.

The IP address is incorrect.

Ports are in exclusive use, but the device is working.

Ports are temporarily blocked on the Brocade switches by an administrator.

SNMP access failures

McData and Cisco Fibre Channel switches

The SNMP Read community must be set to collect data for McData and Cisco Fibre Channel switches.

To set up the SNMP Read Community, complete the following steps:

1.

Open a telnet session for the switch.

2.

Enter the show snmp command. If the Read community is not set up, a blank screen appears
under the community and the group access columns.

3.

To set up the community string, enter the snmp-server community public command (a well known
community public is set in this example).

4.

Enter the show snmp command again. The community and group access columns are configured.

5.

Close the telnet session.

To set up the SNMP Read Community, complete the following steps:

Brocade Fibre Channel switches

The SNMP Read community must be set to collect data for Brocade Fibre Channel switches.
