1 Introduction/Overview

SOM concepts and features

Concepts

SOM refers to using the service process control method to effectively supervise and control
the process and result of a behavior and providing the behavior auditing capability after the
behavior is complete during the routine network and service management procedures.

The SOM works with the common network configuration management operations of iMC and
various basic configured items (CIs) to provide a network and service configuration management
environment that can be operated and maintained and enhance the application scenarios
and values of the management software.

Features

SOM delivers the following features:

Provides an independent and high-availability web management client, which is SOM Service
Desk.

Closely works with the common management operations (such as alarm acknowledgement,
device ACL configuration, device configuration deployment, and device VLAN configuration)
of iMC to provide a process-based management solution.

Effectively uses the existing resources (including user resources and device resources) of iMC
and closely integrates with the existing iMC functions.

Provides granular user privilege level organization and management.

Provides process template uploading for users to customize service processes to expand SOM.

SOM architecture

The iMC SOM component is composed of the configuration management database (CMDB) and
the Service Desk, which both work depending on the self-service module of the iMC platform. The
architecture of SOM is as shown in

Figure 1 (page 5)

.

The CMDB management maintains the basic data used during the process maintenance. The
ServiceDesk provides the web-based interface for users to complete various process operations.

iMC platform — Self-Service management

The SOM user is an iMC platform user who logs in to the SOM ServiceDesk and performs the
process operations. The self-service management component provides the data access interface
for the iMC user resources. The self-service management component is deployed based on the
