NOTE: In order to get the proper packing and penetrating forces per field, we recommend
lowering the opener shank pressure from the tractor at the beginning of each field. Every
new Seed Hawk toolbar manufactured leaves with the opener shank pressure set at
approximately 1000 PSI.
5. Turing the min‐max “DOWN PRESSURE” dial allows the user to increase or decrease the
desired packing pressure to achieve proper packing and penetration forces to seed. REFER TO
SECTION 4.5, pertaining to the control system being used.
NOTE: The chain between the seed and fertilizer knife will be tight when applying the proper
amount of pressure to the opener shank. Once the knives get tight, notice the shank
pressure gauge and its reading. In good seeding conditions, add an additional 200 PSI to the
system. When seeding small seeds such as CANOLA in wet conditions, adding an additional
200 PSI is not recommended. This would cause over compaction. Max packing pressure is
1500 PSI.
6. Turn off the “SHANK /LIQUID PUMP” switch to disengage the opener shanks. Refer to
picture above. REFER TO SECTION 4.5, pertaining to the control system being used.
NOTE: ALWAYS ENSURE THAT THE OPENER SHANK IS MAINTAINING SEED AND FERTILIZER
SEPERATION. SEED HAWK INC. RECOMMENDS CHECKING THE ACTUAL SEED AND FERTILIZER
SEPERATON IN EACH FIELD. SOILS VARY, MOISTURE CONDITIONS VARY. OVER TIME THE
OPENER BOLTS IF NOT TIGHTENED ON A YEARLY BASIS WILL FUNCTION DIFFERENTLY FROM
THE NEW MACHINE, SEED AND FERTILIZER SEPERATION MAY CHANGE.
4.8 OPENER SHANK OPERATION – LOUP III
