Normally the voltage should be set to 90 kV at the
power supply. Some conditions may dictate lower
voltage settings. If Faraday cage areas are
predominant on the item being painted, a lower
voltage setting will aid in coating these areas.

Paints having high metallic flake content will
sometimes align at high voltages. Metallic flakes,
when aligned, become a direct electrical path to
ground and will reduce tip voltage. This problem
can be minimized by making sure that the paint is
being sprayed from the applicator prior to turning
the voltage on. In some cases, a reduction in
applied voltage may be the only way to reduce
alignment.
