• Do not use hammer if hammer head is chipped, cracked, mushroomed, or damaged in any
way or hammer can cause flying chips and result in injury.
• Do not use hammer to strike another hammer or any other hard surface.
• Always wear ANSI approved safety goggles when using hammers (Users and bystanders).
• Always wear appropriate safety equipment and clothing when using hammers.
• Do not use hammer if hammer handle is loose on hammer head or damaged in any way or
hammer head can fly off and result in injury.
• Always strike squarely and avoid glancing blows.
• Do not strike with side of hammer.
• Use body hammer only for striking automotive type sheet metal as the designed intent.
• Do not use hammer near flammable substance. Steel hammers cause sparks and can ignite
flammable substance and cause injury.
• Do not use COMPOTHANE ® or urethane hammers near liquid oxygen or they can rupture or
ignite and cause injury.
• Do not weld, grind, cut, heat or modify hammer in any way.
• Failure to read and follow all warnings and instructions provided may result in damages,
loss of vision, serious injury or death.

1. Inspect hammers and dollies before each use for cracks, chips, mushrooming, assuring handle is
secured to head and tools are clean and free from oil and grease.
2. Choose the appropriate size and shape dolly for the work to be performed. Smaller dollies can be
used for thin metals, dings, small curves and hard to reach places. Larger dollies can be used for
large dents, flat panels, flanges and shrinking stretched metal. Dollies are to be placed on the inside
of the damaged panel to be repaired.
3. Choose the appropriate size and shape hammer for the work to be performed. Shrinking hammers
can be used to tighten metal that has been stretched due to damages or metal shaping and can
cause a textured finish on the metal. Pick hammers can be used to remove small dimples and low
spots while using a small rounded dolly with soft hammer strokes. Cross peen hammers are good
general purpose hammers and can be used for straightening sheet metal panels, stretching metal,
riveting, forging, sharp corners, re-establishing peaks, and finishing.
