Checking/Adjusting

Table Parallelism

If the tables are not parallel with the cutterhead or
each other, then poor cutting results and kickback
can occur.

Checking Outfeed Table

To check the outfeed table parallelism:

1. DISCONNECT JOINTER FROM POWER

SOURCE!

2. Remove the cutterhead guard and fence.

3. Loosen the outfeed table lock located at the

front of the machine, and loosen the jam nuts
and positive stop bolts located at the back of
the machine (see

Figure 51).

4. Place the straightedge on the outfeed table

so it hangs over the cutterhead, and lower
the outfeed table until the straightedge just
touches the body of the cutterhead, as shown
in

Figure 52 (rotate the cutterhead if neces-

sary).

5. Place the straightedge in the positions shown

in

Figure 53. In each position, the straight-

edge should touch the cutterhead and sit flat
on the outfeed table.

—If the straightedge touches the cutterhead

and sits flat across the outfeed table in
each position, then the outfeed table is
already parallel with the cutterhead. Check
the infeed table to make sure that it is par-
allel with the outfeed table.

—If the straightedge does not touch the

cutterhead and sit flat on the outfeed table
in any of the positions, then the outfeed
table is not parallel with the cutterhead.
Correct the outfeed table parallelism, then
correct the infeed table parallelism.
