Text Searching Options
The following sections describe what is required to make your documents text-searchable for
images, eDocuments, OCR full text files, and PDF documents.
Images and eDocuments
The “Make documents text-searchable” check box as specified on the General Settings tab, enables
the text-searchable feature.
To make your documents text-searchable, you must install the IBM Net Search Extender (NSE) on
your server. In addition, the item type should be set to text searchable and the ICMBASETEXT
part must be included in the document parts.
NSE is formerly known as the Text Information Extender (TIE) in previous versions.
NSE text indexing supports the following image formats:
Excel
HTML
Text
Word
XML

for more information about setting up item type parts using NSE.
OCR Full Text
To release OCR Full text files with the “Make documents text-searchable” option enabled, the
selected item type must contain the ICMBASE and ICMBASETEXT parts. The item type should be
set to text searchable. To release OCR full text files as part of the image, a semantic type named
“KofaxOCR” must be created on the Content Manager server. (SPR 30343)

PDF Documents
To release PDF documents with the “Make documents text-searchable” option enabled, the
selected item type must contain the ICMBASETEXT parts. The item type should be set to text
searchable and contain the ICMfetchFilter. (IBM PMR 93948; Kofax SPR 0457)
