7. Enable termination for the device(s) at the end(s) of each SCSI bus or
attach an external SCSI terminator to the last connector of each SCSI
cable. To ensure the bus remains terminated if an end device is
removed, we recommend using an external terminator. For information
on enabling termination for a device, see the documentation that
accompanied the disk drives. For general termination information, see
“SCSI Termination Guidelines” on page 2-8.
8. Be sure termination is disabled on all drives that will not be terminated.
For more information, see the documentation that accompanied the
disk drives.
9. Make sure the SCSI cables do not exceed the SCSI cable specifications
and will accommodate all drives. For more information, see “SCSI
Cabling Guidelines” on page 2-10.
10. Enable termination power for each SCSI disk drive, if available. For
more information, see the documentation that accompanied the disk
drives.
11. Set the SCSI ID for each disk drive to a unique address between 0 and
15, but do not use address 7 (reserved for the controller). For more
information, see the documentation that accompanied the drives. If the
drives are in a drive enclosure that uses external SCSI ID selectors, see
the documentation that accompanied the enclosure.
Caution
If internal and external drives are used, be sure that no
drive addresses are duplicated. Many external SCSI
cabinets automatically assign drive addresses to drives
based on their locations in the cabinet.
12. Insert the disk drives into the drive cabinet. For more information, see
the documentation that accompanied the enclosure.
13. Select from the following for each group of SCSI drives:
• If the drives are in the same cabinet as the controller, connect the
SCSI drives to the SCSI cable and connect the cable to a channel on
the controller. If the last device is not terminated, attach a terminator
to the last connector of the SCSI cable.
