Section 3 — Connections and Switching Functions
first input of the first switching channel. One communication port from
Ignite B would connect to the second input of the first switching channel.
The output of the first switching channel connects to the communication
port of any serial-controllable device, such as a VTR or character generator.
The second switching channel would connect in the same manner, to a
second communication port from each of the two Ignite systems and to the
communication port of a second peripheral device. These connections are
all made using standard digital communication cables terminated with 9-
pin, sub-D connectors. The Communication Switch Card input connectors
are socket type; output connectors are pin type. These same directions
should be followed for utilizing each of the six Communication Switch
Cards in the Master Module. Refer to
information.
Note
The actual signal switching mechanism employed is passive and can there-
fore accommodate all typical communication signaling methods, including
RS232, RS485, RS422.
Note
Verify that the communication switch card inputs are connected to the same
control ports of each Ignite control module. For example, if the VTR is con-
nected to control port 1 on Ignite system A, the same VTR should be con-
nected to control port 1 on Ignite system B.
