Installing a lightning protector for a network port
A lightning protector is not provided with the device. H3C recommends that you install a lightning
protector for 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ-45 copper Ethernet ports.
IMPORTANT:
Before installing the lightning protector, read the instructions that come with the lightning protector.
If part of the network cable of a 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ-45 copper Ethernet port must be routed
outdoors, connect a lightning protector to the cable before you plug the cable into the port.
Installation procedures
To install a port lightning protector:
1.
Use a double-faced adhesive tape to stick the lightning protector onto the device chassis, and
make sure it is as close to the grounding screw of the device as possible.
2.
Measure the distance between the protector and the grounding screw of the device, cut the ground
wire of the protector as needed, and securely tighten the ground wire to the grounding screw of the
device.
3.
Use the multimeter to measure whether the ground wire of the protector makes contact with the
grounding screw of the chassis.
4.
Insert the outdoor network cable into the protector's Surge end, and insert the cable connected to
the device into the Protect end. Examine the indicators on the lightning protector to verify that the
connection is correct.
