Virtual Channels
The 4
“Virtual Channels” are used solely for multiplexing purposes (see Figure 6.4 below).
The virtual channels add all the channel timer functions to each virtual channel. The interface
layout and functionality is identical to a normal channel with the exception that there is no
amplitude OR polarity adjustment. The other main difference is the virtual channel does not
have a physical output as they are primarily used for multiplexing with the normal channels.
This, in turn, allows the 9250 to multiplex all virtual channels through a normal channel ou tput
to create complex pulse trains. For example, virtual channels E through H may be multiplexed
with any of the physical channels A though D.

NOTE: The virtual channels’ delay resolution is only 4ns (as compared to the normal
channels’ delay resolution of 5ps).
