Service & Maintenance
1. Remove upper belt guard to expose the belt and pulleys.
2. Check to ensure that the engine mounts square to the
chipper body.
3. Loosen set screws and align engine pulley with idler pul-
ley. Using a straight edge, align rotor pulley with engine
pulley. Tighten all set screws.
4. Engage the clutch with the belt in place and check idler
engagement. The idler pulley should impact the belt in
the center of the pulley. All pulleys must be in perfect
alignment. All set screws must be tight.
If idler pulley will not remain in alignment with engine and
rotor pulleys it may be necessary to replace the idler
bracket bushings. Contact the Bear Cat service depart-
ment for more information.
5. Check the alignment of the belt guide so the finger is
orientated approximately 1/8” from the belt when the clutch
is engaged (see Figure #48). Adjust by loosening the
mounting bolts and repositioning the guide. Retighten
mounting bolts.
6. Reinstall upper belt guard.
7. From underneath, check the alignment of lower belt guard
with a post card (See Fig. #48). With the clutch engaged,
there should be enough room between the belt and the
side of the guard for the card to slide along the belt. With
the clutch disengaged, the card should not be able to
slide. Adjust if necessary.
BELT GUIDE ADJUSTMENTS
The 70050 is equipped with a belt guide. The guide aids in
disengaging the chipper/shredder. If problems arise with
engaging and disengaging the unit, follow the instructions
below. These instructions also adjust the lower belt guard.
To prevent personal injury or property damage: Shut
off engine, disconnect spark plug wire and make sure
that all moving parts have come to a complete stop
before, servicing, adjusting or repairing.
