Set decorative stitch dial 4 (Fig. 31)at first
buttonhole setting. This will automatically set
the width of the buttonhole sides.
Lower needle carefully into the mark on the
fabric, indicating the start of the buttonhole.
Lower presser foot and sew full length of
right-hand side of buttonhole. Fig. 35 STEP 1
Set decorative stitch dial 4 at bar tack setting
STEP 2. Sew four or five stitches.
Set decorative stitch dial 4 for left-hand side
of buttonhole. This will automatically set the
machine to sew in reverse. Sew left-hand side
of buttonhole. STEP 3
Set decorative stitch dial 4 at bar
tack setting STEP 4. Sew four or five
stitches.
Return stitch width lever 14 to 0 and
take two or three stitches to fasten
bar tack threads and prevent ravelling.
Cut the buttonhole opening with seam
ripper, being careful not to cut the
stitching.
Although buttonholes can be made with
recommended for best results.
If you plan to make buttonholes on sheer or soft material, place tarlatan or paper under fabric
which can be torn away after stitching.
