Cylinder rebuilding
The cylinder used on the MTD log splitter come from two different suppliers but have the same part number.
When replacing the whole cylinder, the two are interchangeable. However, when rebuilding the cylinder, the manu-
facturer (type) of the cylinder must be identified so that the proper rebuild kit can be ordered. The cylinders are iden-
tified as E-type and X-type.
To identify the cylinder type:
The E-type cylinder:
• Uses socket headed screws with washers to hold
the rod guide against the retaining ring.
The X-type cylinder:
• Uses two hex headed screws with washers to hold
the rod guide against the retaining ring.
