Power Supply (DC Cable) to Indicator:
Important
If DC cable length is trimmed, re-tin the green and brown wires. Ground is achieved by connecting
the white wire to the chassis or using the braid.
Conduit is not required for this installation. However, a separate conduit system is recommended. The type
suggested for this application is 3/4 inch rigid steel conduit with pull boxes located at required intervals. The
conduit provides additional noise protection for the low level signals, while automatically complying with the
requirements for 2 inch separation between intrinsically safe circuits and other electrical cables. Conduit seals are
required where a gas tight seal is required between the hazardous area and the safe area.

The conduit should terminate adjacent to the respective enclosure with a union providing the proper thread to
accept a Hubbel or Crouse Hinds cord connector for the cable to exit the conduit. All conduit, fittings and conduit
accessories are provided and installed by the customer.
The customer is responsible for the correct installation of all conduit seals in compliance with all National
Electrical Code regulations.
Cable Connections and Installation
The following procedure is used when installing a 320IS indicator with an AC powered IS power supply.
Do not, under any circumstances, connect or disconnect the DC wire from the indicator while the AC
power is applied to the power supply. This will cause the power supply fuse to blow.
Note
Intrinsically safe cables are specified by control drawing. All cables must meet the appropriate internal
inductance and capacitance according to the control drawing. Cable lengths are based on group
classifications.
Before Connecting AC Power to the Power Supply
1. Determine the length of the AC power cord necessary to reach between the AC panel and the power supply
mounting location.
2. Cut the AC power cord to the determined length. Remember if mounting the IS power supply in a
hazardous area, all AC power must be routed through approved conduit. Where necessary, make
allowances in length for the conduit.
3. Install the AC power cord but DO NOT hook up to the AC power.
4. Determine the length of DC power cord necessary to reach from the AC power supply to the 320IS
indicator. Add an additional 7" to that length.
5. Cut the DC power cord to that length.
