CHECKING THE FLUID LEVEL
WHEN THE FLUID IS HOT
(RECOMMENDED)
STEP 1. Drive the vehicle 20 miles
or until it reaches normal operating
temperature.
STEP 2. Park the vehicle on a level
surface and engage the parking
brake.
STEP 3. With the parking brake en-
gaged and your foot on the brake
pedal, start the engine and move the
gearshift lever through all of the
gear ranges. Allow sufficient time for
each gear to engage.
STEP 4. Latch the gearshift lever in
P (Park) and leave the engine run-
ning.
STEP 5. Remove the dipstick, wip-
ing it clean with a clean, dry lint free
rag.
STEP 6. Install the dipstick making
sure it is fully seated in the filler
tube.
STEP 7. Carefully remove the dip-
stick and inspect the fluid level. The
fluid should be in the 80°C (176°F)
area for normal operating tempera-
ture
(See Figure 1).
CHECKING THE FLUID LEVEL
WHEN THE FLUID IS COLD
STEP 1. When the vehicle has not
been driven, and outside tempera-
ture is above 50°F, remove the
dipstick, wiping it clean with a
clean, dry lint free rag.
STEP 2. Install the dipstick making
sure it is fully seated in the filler
tube.
STEP 3. Carefully remove the dip-
stick and inspect the fluid level.
The fluid level should be between
the 25°C (77°F) area on the dipstick
(See Figure 1).
