PLANTING DEPTH ADJUSTMENTS
OVERVIEW
To get full performance from your Solid Stand Folding Drill, a good understanding of the opener’s
operation is important. The following is an introduction to the opener. In the sections following,
are instructions on how to adjust drill and opener components to achieve drilling objectives.
DOUBLE DISK OPENER:
Each opener is attached to the drill by a single pivot drawbar. The single pivot mounting allows a wide vertical
travel range. The down force needed by each opener to cut the seed’s groove is supplied by two springs nested at
the back of the opener. The amount of down force is adjusted by changing the location of the "W" clips in the spring
rod. Refer to
"Disk Opener Spring Pressure Setting"
DEPTH CONTROLLING PRESS WHEEL:
Attached to the rear of each opener is one of several optional press wheels. The press wheel and it’s mechanism
provide two important functions:
1) The press wheel closes the furrow and gently presses the soil over the seed.
2) The press wheel rolls on top the ground providing depth control to the opener and seed.
To maintain a consistent planting depth, the relationship between the bottom of the opener disk-blades and the
press wheel is adjustable. The position of the adjustable press wheel determines how deep the seed will be placed.
