Seed Firmer Adjustments
Depending on row option originally specified, 00 Series
row units include a seed flap or Seed-Lok
®
. An optional
Keeton
®
seed firmer may be ordered separately.
The seed flap requires no adjustment, but may need to
be replaced if worn, and may need to be shortened if an
optional seed firmer is added after initial delivery.
Sharp Object Hazard:
Use caution when making adjustments in this area. Row unit
disc blades may be sharp. To adjust the Keeton
®
Seed Firmer,
lower the drill until the discs of the row units are resting on the
ground.

Seed Firmer Adjustment
The optional Keeton
®
Seed Firmer is an engineered
polymer shape that slides down the seed trench. It traps
seeds as they exit the seed tube and firms them into the
bottom of the furrow “V”.
Refer to Figure 27
The Firmer is provided with a preset tension which is
recommended for using the first year. The tension
screw
can be tightened in subsequent years according
to your needs. Firmers should provide just enough
tension to push seeds to the bottom of the trench.

Optional Seed-Lok
®
firming wheels provide additional
seed-to-soil contact. The wheels are spring loaded and
do not require adjusting. In some wet and sticky
conditions the wheels may accumulate soil. To avoid
problems associated with this, you can lock-up the
firmers.
Refer to Figure 28 (shown with an opener disc removed for
clarity - this task can be performed with discs mounted)
To lock up Seed-Lok
®
wheels:
1.
Pull catch wire aside
.
2.
Pull firming-wheel arm
up and release wire to
catch arm.
