interactions with the column. The Metrohm analytical columns are equip-
ped with a chip on which their technical specifications and their history
(first use / setting up, operating hours, injections, ... ) are saved.

Intended use
The 850 Professional IC is used for the ion chromatographic determina-
tion of cations and anions. The two channels can be operated in parallel
or completely independently of one another. Sequential suppression
can be used in the anion channel:
■
Chemical suppression by the Metrohm Suppressor Module (MSM) and

suppression by the Metrohm CO

Suppressor (MCS) (see Chapter
The use of this technology reduces background conductivity to an abso-
lute minimum.
If required, the instrument can also be used for the determination of cati-
ons and anions without suppression.
The present instrument is suitable for processing chemicals and flammable
samples. The usage of the 850 Professional IC – AnCat – MSM-HC – MCS
therefore requires that the user has basic knowledge and experience in
the handling of toxic and caustic substances. Knowledge with respect to
the application of the fire prevention measures prescribed for laboratories
is also mandatory.
