8 Troubleshooting
8.1 Problems and their solutions
Problem Cause Remedy
Marked drop in
pressure Leak in the system. Check all capillary connections and seal leaks,
if necessary (see Chapter 3.4, page 17).
Drift of the baseline Thermal equilibrium not yet
attained. Condition instrument with the column heater
switched on.
Leak in the system. Check all capillary connections and seal leaks,
if necessary (see Chapter 3.4, page 17).
Extreme spread of
the peaks in the
chromatogram.
Splitting (dual
peaks) Capillary connections –
dead volume in the system. Check connections (see Chapter 3.4, page 17)
(use PEEK capillaries with an internal diameter
of 0.25 mm between the injection valve and
detector).
